Q. How do your services work with a regular veterinarian?
A. My services are intended to work in conjunction with your regular veterinarian and are carried out in the comfort of your home under their indirect supervision. I am not replacing the vet clinic. I cannot diagnose or prescribe medication. I can help give advice that you should always follow up with your regular veterinarian to make sure you are choosing the best course for your pet.
Q. How do I sign up for any of these services?
A. Please send me an email with your contact information and what service(s) you want. I will be in touch to go over what to expect, your pets' needs, and any other needed information before proceeding.
Emailing and texting is faster than calling. As I am frequently working with clients throughout the day, I may not be able to pick up your call. I will respond to my voicemails when I become available, typically within a business day.
Q. What is the purpose of an in-home consultation before pet sitting?
A. This provides an opportunity for us to meet beforehand, go over any special needs your animal may have for me to provide the best car possible. This also helps your animal start to get to know me and be familiar when I pet sit for them.
Q. Can you keep my pet at your home?
A. This is dependent on the dog (no cats) and my schedule & availability. Please contact me about this option to find out if I would be a good fit.
Q. Can you stay over at my house to pet sit?
A. At this time I don't offer this option.
Q. Can I get updates/pictures of my pet? I will miss my baby so much!
A. Of course! I have some paperwork for you to fill out and all you need to do is check the box that you want updates/pictures.
Q. Will you just let my dog outside to potty with no fenced yard? They are really good about doing their business and coming back in.
A. No, for liability reasons I will leash your dog up to take outside. I don't want them running away or getting injured. Even though they listen to you, they may not listen to me. If there is a complete, undamaged fence, I can let them out on their own while still watching them the entire time.
Q. Can you do a visit for our cat every other day or every few days during petsitting?
A. No, I require to visit your cat at least once daily. Checking in on cats is necessary in case they get themselves into trouble (trapped somewhere in the house) or have a medical emergency. That way they don't go days without someone finding an issue.
Q. What if my pet becomes ill while I am away?
A. If a medical problem arises while you're away I will contact you first and foremost, unless I was told to contact someone else first. If I can't get ahold of you, then I will go to your emergency contact. From there we will discuss if your pet should be seen by the veterinarian. If so, your pet will be transported to the vet clinic for examination and treatment. If neither can be reached then I will determine if the animal needs to be seen. If necessary, your pet will be taken for treatment. You will be billed by the hour and for transporting costs for any extra time spent in providing these services. You will be responsible for any costs incurred at the vet clinic as well.
Q. How much advanced notice do you require before service?
A. Please contact me as soon as you have plans and will need pet care. During the holidays and summer time the schedule fills up quickly.
Q. How do you get into my house? Do I have to give you a key?
A. Most of the time people have a spare key to give me for the duration of the service. I have had long term clients let me keep the key so they don't have to worry about always giving me one or leaving it out for when I stop by. Other times people have me go through the garage door with a code. It's up to your comfort level.
Q. What type of payment do you accept?
A. I accept cash, personal check or Venmo. Returned checks will be charged a $30 fee to cover bank costs.
Q. When is payment due?
A. It depends on the service:
Q. What is your cancellation policy?
A. It depends on the service:
Q. Are you insured?
A. Yes, Travel Paws is a limited liability company with appropriate liability insurance through a reputable provider.
